morning pages
I am always thinking that to be a good teacher one must be a good reader and a good writer. This morning early I was able to spend some fun time reading things I had written when I was 18 years old. And as a teacher doing the math that means I have saved things (mind you small things) that I have written for (57-18=49) yep 49 years.
Well can I just say I am encouraged becasue I have all the time I need and yesterday I spent 20 minutes getting organized and later dropped off $7.50 worth of books at the half price books. That means that I made $7.50 for 20 minutes of work.
Today I spent 30 minutes of work, no, not work because some of my time was spent having fun reading. 30 minutes later I have 2 bags of recycled paper and 1 bag to go to half price books.
Come back for more reading of my 3rd edition of a "Teacher must be Organized"
May you be blessed with Peace, Love, and Organization in your life today!

Baby Lennon and Everybody Else!
Saturday, June 26th, 2010
Afternoon Pages
Today is Lennon Eleanor Larson's birthday ... and that makes 4 everybody else's Annika, Eden, Sid, Pru!
I know that my time is short because when the everybody else (Sid and Pru) went down for a nap I choose to sleep too. (Sid's prayer at naptime, thank you Jesus for baby Lennon and Mommy!)
I just woke up and deceided to say a few words about how excited I am to be a Nana yet one more time. and just like the rest, her brother, sister and cousins she is one beautiful baby!
She weighed in at 8 pounds 2 ounces at 6:34 am!

#1 As a Teacher I must be Organized
June 23, 2010
morning pages
Is it fair to put something that someone else wrote on my blog? Yep, in my mind it is, especially if it is worth reading. Mind you. this is worth reading and practicing in my li fe today. for the simple fact, that I am in the middle of my second week off from school for the summer. If I do not stop putting things off, and get my school stuff under control, the summer will be over before I know it.
For this very reason I decided to read my fly lady today. I will practice 15 minutes in my bedroom closet, of cleaning out my school stuff, that I have saved for 5 years while being in college.
I am tring to remember that just for today I will take 15 minutes and I will throw away, give away, and put away and I will be that much closer to my goal of having my teaching stuff organized before fall.
Some will work in their gardens, some will work at their jobs, some will work at home with their children, some will have fun with their grandchildren, (yep, that's me today)and some will work at getting their teaching stuff organized today for 15 minutes (yep, that's me too)!
Our procrastination is fueled by our perfectionism. We get caught in the trap of thinking we don't have time to do it right. This is when we do nothing. Eventually the procrastination bites us hard and our homes become overwhelming. Isn't this why you searched the internet looking for an answer to your messy house?
We give you to the tools but the most important part is the attitude adjustment you manifest in your head. You read what we write for you and use those messages to eliminate your perfectionism. It doesn't happen overnight. Your home did not become cluttered in a day and it is not ever going to be that ideal of "Perfect"!
Perfect is a myth you only see in pictures of magazines. It is a word that I despise because of what it does to my FlyBabies. We so want to get it all together and feel good about our homes. We just never dreamed that in the process of getting our homes clean we would find ourselves.
Our perfectionism piggy-backed with procrastination put us in a coma. We don't know how to make a decision so it is just easier to do nothing. Sometimes we just want someone to tell us where to start and
what to do. I think this is why our message has touched so many people. We give you a starting place and tell you that you can do anything for 15 minutes.
In the time it takes to talk ourselves out of doing something we could have the job done. You know the dialog. It has become invisible to our thinking processes because we have played it out over and over each
time something needs to be done. We hear ourselves saying we don't have time. Those words are the first red flag for us. If you would set your timer at the moment those words cross your lips or enter your mind you would feel so much better. No more procrastinating. I don't have time has turned into do it now!
Do it now is doing something! Sometimes it is just putting away one item but it is something! Celebrate your Go Me accomplishments. They don't have to be perfect or even finished to be a reason to throw your
arms up in the air and yell Go ME! Getting up is better than being paralyzed in a chair saying I don't have time.
It is time to stop procrastinating! Today is Anti-Procrastination Day. You can do it! Just do something! You will feel better! This week we are in our Master Bedrooms. What have you been putting off? I cleared my dresser today. Let's turn our bedrooms into a sanctuary.
Are you ready to FLY?
FlyLady
Have you been procrastinating about putting together your simple Control Journal? This is a tool that gives you place to start. It is just a binder with your routines written down. It is your list to get you started. If your perfectionism has stopped you from writing down our routines stop it right now! get a piece of paper and do it now!
For those of you who need help I put one together for you!

IntenSati
A practice for your body, heart and mind. “Inten” derives from “intention”, and “Sati” is a Pali word which means mindfulness. IntenSati is an exhilarating workout that builds physical, mental, and spiritual muscle. Courage, confidence, willpower, enthusiasm, self-respect, and a strong, healthy body are all results of this powerful practice. And YES – it is also tremendously fun! IntenSati is about bettering both the quality of your inner dialogue and of your physical training. Calling up your power of concentration will improve your health, strength, weight, and most importantly: YOUR LIFE. It is absolute! IntenSati combines high-energy, total-body training with powerful, positive statements that you either think or speak. The goal of this practice is to enable a seamless and total integration of body and mind, allowing you to be and experience all you deeply want. You will learn to tap into the power of the present moment in order to embody –rather than just think or talk about – your BOLDEST, MOST EMPOWERED, BEST SELF. A better way of life. IntenSati will improve how you think and speak about yourself right NOW, a powerful change will follow. IntenSati moves are simple. They are a combination of exercises from aerobics, kickboxing, yoga, and dance. IntenSati is the practice of remembering that if you want to live a life you love in a body you love, you must start loving it now!

The following from the Monday edition of the star and tribune iteresting concept ... but I perfer Sigh
Yoga takes to the streets
Tom Wallace, Star Tribune
With cars and buses driving nearby, Gorilla Yogis co-founder Nan Gane Arundel needed a power boost to give instructions during the 90-minute class.
Have mat, will travel. Yoga is moving outside the studio and into some very unusual and public spaces, such as parking lots and by lakes, making it more accessible and affordable.

Father's Day, June 20, 2010
Did you know that Father's Day is 100 years old today. Father's Day started in 1910 by a woman. (interesting little fact I learned today in Church)
In Honor of fathers past, present and future ....
My own father, Gordon Walker (gone to be with Jesus)
My father-in-law, Arthur Pederson (gone to be with Jesus)
My husband Terry (who I happen to think is the best father and grandfather in the world!)
Matt (father to cats, husband to Lisa)
Jacob (father to Annika and Eden, husband to Carrie)
Adam (future father and only son, husband to Renee)
Josh (father to Sid, Pru, and soon to be Lennon, husband to Kelley)
But can I just say I have the greatest Father and His name is Jesus ...
Would you get to know Him?
I have ... I not only know Him, I love Him, I respect Him and I Honor Him!
Wishing all father's a Happy Father's Day!

First it was a blank page then ....
a picture thought for today!
A blank page
Saturday, June 19, 2010
Outside my window... it is a bit overcast but the tempature reads 59 degrees
I am thinking... about what reading I will do
I am thankful for... Aaron, Alisa, Chris, Megan, Ken, Ginny, Mike, Denise, Tim and Nancy.
From the learning rooms... history and Art
From the kitchen... I am mixing up a yummy smoothie with greens
I am wearing... my black exercise pants and a peach top and soon to add a yellow bandana
I am creating... nothing at the moment other than my thoughts to what I may do with my day
I am going... to Sigh Yoga and then to Starbucks with friends
I am reading... blogs this morning and then will move to finishing up Job
I am hoping... to find some capris sometime this week since my lipgloss was in the wash and got on my 2 pairs that I wear right now
I am hearing... the clock tick in my computer room
Around the house... I will be doing laundry
One of my favorite things... is reading what I want to read not what I have to read
A few plans for the rest of the week: haven't really thought that far except that I will get to my art class this week on the right day and the right time
hopefully :-)

What to do when you arrive at the art institute for class one week early?
picture of homemade organic strawberry gluten free pie in the making
June 17, 2010 afternoon pages
You may not have even thought of this question, or even have the answer to the question, but can I just say, because that is excatly what transpired in my life today, I wanted an answer to my question.
With great anticipation and excitement I drove to the MIA (Minneapolis Institure of Art) not to be mistaken for the MOA (Mall of America)... yes, I drove to the Minneapolis Insitute of Art, on the wrong day and wrong time, but everything happens for a reason .... right?
And yes, I did fully intend on taking an art class today, only to find out that I arrived at the class a week early. Now I am a person who likes to be early but I usually do not show up a week early. I left where the class was to take place on a quest to answer my question.
So I made a phone call or two and found instead of spending time with others I would check out the play at the children's theater only to find out it was sold-out!
Now, I wondered how many times that happens on a weekday morning at the theater? Another good question, I did not have the answer to, but no problem, since it was a sunny Mpls day and most of the past few days on record maybe 16 or so have been rainy I thought it's a perfect day to go to the farmer's market.
Since unlike my husband and children I am a novice when it comes to plants and food grown by farmers I deceided to learn some more today ... I learned about home grown organic strawberries.
Now, so you do not think that I know nothing, I want you to know, that I did know that strawberries in the grocery store can be quite large. So of course, I wondered why the strawberries grown on a MN farm were quite small. I found out they were grown on an organic farm and of course organic means no added stuff to make strawberries large!
Q: So to answer the question what to do when you arrive at the art institute a week early and it's sunny out and you have never made a homemade strawberry pie, better yet a homemade strawberry gluten free pie?
A: Go to the farmer's market, buy organic strawberries, come home and make homemade strawberry gluten free pie!

School's Out! Reading, Writing, and Art are In!
June 16, 2010 Morning Pages
I am so excited to share that school is out and therefore my mornings will be filled with reading, writing and art ... most likely, more reading, than writing and art yet, I do have concrete plans for the later two.
I have already started a new book on my kindle. As I was scrolling my kindle and scoping out some books I found a book of interest. What I love about my kindle is that I can download any book and sample it before I decide to buy the book for cheap ... this book $9.99. The book A Young People's History of the World by Howard Zinn.
I find that I have a deficit in knowing history, but I know there are many ways to learn history. One of these ways, of course, is by reading. In the past, I have had a tendency, to read authors I am familiar with. This particular author I did not know, he was not recommended, yet I found myself drawn to him. I even asked my husband (a history major some years ago) if he had heard of Howard Zinn.
I learned that Zinn, through this book, choose to use some unlikely voices, to teach about history, and some of these voices, include children. I also learned, by reading the sample of the book, that Zinn would choose to tell the truth of history through his eyes and knowledge. Of intrest to me, Zinn's truth may not be in the current history books our children are reading.
A quote to close my blog with today ....
"In learning you will teach and in teaching you will learn"
What I have not yet learned, I believe I will be unable to teach. Therefore, I am looking forward to the lazy days of summer ... to be learning, through the disciplines of reading, writing and art!

May Update
I am not really sure what happened to April except that it seemed to fly by and because of this or for whatever other reason I did not follow through with my intention of blogging monthly at the very least and completely blew it! I did not blog in April ... please forgive me ... my faithful readers .... you know who you are ....
So now it is officially the 7th of May as the clock in our living room just struck midnight. I am having a night where I am unable to sleep because of burning pain in my face due to a head injury which occurred on April 15.
I am somewhat excited and yet apprehensive for the next couple of days as I practice for graduation tomorrow night and then graduate on Saturday with a party to follow and then celebrate Mother's Day on Sunday with all 5 kids.
The excitement comes from the completion of an intention for 2010 ... graduate in May with my BS in Educational Studies (a bit of a change due to the fact that I did not do my student teaching and instead took 12 additional credits, hence Educational Studies rather that Elementary ED).
The apprehension comes from the burning sensation in my face and the somewhat unsteadiness in my balance due to my injury.
All in all though it should be a great weekend of celebration ... graduation, mother's day, all my kids, (minus my son-in-law, Jacob who is unable to be with us in MN this time around) grand kids, family and friends .... it will be a weekend to remember ... more to come ....
